aren't cousins
the BEST? one of my chicago cousins works in the design field and was thoughtful enough to send a smidge of
osborne and little fabric my way.
i scoured my "to do tunnel" in search of a smidge-worthy spot....
 |
| the "spot" before |
though dated, this is a quality piece
and heavy as tank. at $75 on craigslist INCLUDING his buddies nightstand and mirror, it was a steal. yah?
with drawers, doors and raised panels, this piece called for a sleeker finish that wouldn't compete with the lines so i needed to start with a smooth surface. i know i don't NEED to sand or strip prior to applying annie sloan chalk paint but--dudes, what to do about deep divots? a topcoat like this eats 20 bucks worth of sandpaper before spitting out some raw wood, so helllllloooo
citra strip.
again.
just ignore my blurry dog and his doubtful-duffy 'tude because...
mmmmm....be still my achy, breaky sleek-lovin' heart.
the simple brass hardware stayed put and was highlighted with a splash of ASCP paris gray except for the addition of some sparkly chunks of glass.
yes, $2.95 ...
yes, anthropologie sale....
yes, you may curse me out here, but make it brief.
B U S Y's still beckoning.
 |
| TWO-ninety-five. uh-huh. |
to punctuate the macho lines, i lightly sanded (200 grit) to pull through some wood and then added a subtly sanded edging in the same ASCP paris gray.
however...
"HERE I AM!", screams the chicas behind those successful masculine lines...
(the smidge enjoys a dramatic entrance, so bear with me here.)
don't choke on your drool, por favor.
nuh-uh! find your own cousin! mine's busy hunting down more smidges!
i l o v e l o v e L O V E t h i s p i e c e ... and so does macguver.
it might even find a home
here:
of course, nightstand and mirror are still waiting in the wings... you know, to be heaved onto a moving truck in a few short weeks... so who the heck knows when they'll find their way to my paint stand.
in the meantime, let's just oogle those legs one more time....
it's the legs that do it, don't you think? their curve is just a touch of unexpected softness on this linear piece.
sort of like the foot was unexpected stinkiness in this perfectly aligned shot.
or the way the big toe was an unexpected grunginess in the whiteness of that sock.
whatever.
ollie rocks.
(thanks, CLD!)

Hullo - could tell me what colour paint you have used here? I couldn't find it. This is so lovely - everything about it. It could be called your Fifi, it's so feminine in its own special way :)
Gorgeous. And I want a cousin that sends me fabulous fabric!
Love the little surprise of fabric behind the doors & that piece would be a keeper for sure for me! I hope you have a place to work on all of your furniture in your new place! - Susan
LOVE! amy! you are a rock star! so is this dresser!
If Nate Berkus were here, he would say, "That is SO good-looking!" And I agree. Love it. Nice work.
Let me just start by saying, "Oooooh" and then adding "Ahhhh"....that piece ROCKS and I lust after that fabric! I mean it, I'm full-on dreaming about it! I don't know about you, but I think that the piece is perfect even WITHOUT the sock clad foot but I do have to admit, the contrast of the flesh tone against the blue does work! ;) Just sayin'..... xo
LOVE IT!
SO beautiful - LOVELOVELOVE it!
What a gorgeous project. Would love for you to link this up to my new link party tomorrow. http://thelifeofjenniferdawn.blogspot.com Hope to see you there. :)
love that color and the fabric and the kuh-nobs. woot!
Fantastic!!...Love that it has drawers and the fabric is perfect!...Yes, it would look great in the room!....Gotta run and get that fabulous ASCP color!
I am assuming that Macguyver is a "leg man".....
I wanna get into Ollies drawers.
~Bliss~
Love it! Great idea with the drawers. I am going to have to steal that idea as well one of these days. I think you should keep it for your new place. Too good to let go.
This is beautiful!
Awesome! What a transformation!!!!
Your work is always so beautiful! Did you glaze/dark wax this piece at all? Clear wax? Please, do tell.
Agreed, it's the legs! Stunning piece!!
I'm out of praises to sing on your behalf, Amy.
Holy shit, it's incredible.
'nuff said.
Great job!
Beautiful makeover. Love the color and those knobs are to die for! Thanks for linking up to Share the Love Wednesday!
Mary
thanks for the encouraging comments! i'll be back soon with details on the fabric application and paint finish.... if i survive the next 48 hours supervising 2 tween girls and 5 tween boys! ahhhh!!
okay. hurry up with the fabric details! ;) Seriously gorgeous job. That blue is something else. Love your commentary as usual. I'm copying. Beth.
your dresser redo is fabulous! i think i love everything about it....including the knobs! LOL
Jennifer
I think I'm in love!
Did my comment go through, yo?
Nope. It didn't...which was good, but I'll tell you why later...
I said, "Don't socks come that way? Mine always seem too... But I'm not wearing any socks...why bother? You just keep knockin' them off..."
The End.
Dayyyyum that's twice this week I've wanted to drop an F bomb over a piece of furniture. And I keep scrolling back up to look at the smidges...they have been pinned!
Love it just fantabulos....Wish I had the talent to do something similar
Totally rocks! Infact, it looks so good, you should send it to me... except the shipping would be rediculous. Sigh. Oh well. I'll have to do my own piece.
It looks great Amy! Out of curiousity what did you use to seal the blue paint? I just did a piece in blue chalk paint and tried 2 types of clear wax and per usual (at least for me) it looked streaky. Not sure if anyone else has problems with streaky looking wax on dark colors but I do....and I'm over it! I think I'm jumping on the bandwagon with Cassie at P&P and trying wipe on poly!
Wow! That's about all I can say.... WOW! I think you've convinced me to break out the Aubusson Blue... Wow!
I LOVE this! All that hoarding is sure coming in handy, isn't it? :) Thank you for letting us know you'll be showing us how to apply fabric to the drawers...you left us hanging with jaws hanging open upon that reveal :)
Ollie?
I can tell everyone it's even more awesome'r in person! Leave those doors open. :)
Hahaha. My socks always look like that :( I LOOOOOVE how this turned out. Absolutely gorgeous!!!
The drawers, the drawers!! I'm oogling the drawers. You kicked it outta the park!
Liz
What a stunning makeover, just love that blue! I'll be featuring it tomorrow.

@FlavorDesigns
This piece reminds me of the credenza I painted in a Sherwin Williams paint, I would of never guessed it was Chalk Paint! It is beautiful for sure. Great job, I hope you get the other pieces done soon so that you can really enjoy your hard work.
