the sludge on stripping: part 3

for you late-to-the-gamers, uh... where've you been?  tsk-tsk.  hurry over to parts 1 and 2.

go on, now... skee-daddle over there and zip back here in a jiffy so you don't miss a sludgy second of info.


okay, where were we?

ah, yes. it's messy and a touch stinky but by now you should be puffin' that chest out with pride 'cuz you've unearthed the beauty of natural wood grain.

sorta.

sad to say, the wood now wears a skin of scunge that will not take kindly to the next step in your rehab plan.

hey!  hold your horses! who's that i see on the horizon??? yes, yes!  it's citra-somethin' to the rescue!  (this is for you, shizzles!)

basically, this is the liquid that will reach into the nooks and crannies to remove the leftover ick.  as you can see, i pour it into a container and use a sanding pad (steel wool or stripping pads will also work) to rub it over the wood and pull up remaining stripper or paint.  a little goes a long way.

messy and smelly alert:  crack open a window or door and wear some thick gloves.  after 10 minutes i noticed that it cleaned a hole right through the pointer finger on my rubbers.

i wipe the excess off with paper towels and then allowed the wood to dry out while i moved on to another project.  finally, i  breeze over it with some 120 grit sandpaper so i can glory in the grain one more time.  oh, it helps even out any puffed up grain eyeing the new landscape.

here is the glimmering greatness of grain glowing in the aftermath of my messiness.

aaahhhh.  sigh.  hmmmm.  isn't it f. i. n. e.?

yes, i covered that gorgeous grain with paint due to a bunch of reasons so take your soapbox to another blog 'cuz i'm not listening.
