Oops!...I did it again
I played with the brush, got lost in the paint
Oh baby, baby
Oops!...You'd think that I'd know
That style's a no-go
I'm not that dim-witted
eeee-nuf, i say.
i usually max out on britney spears after 3 lines (the time it takes me to "spin the dial") so now i'm all quivery and queasy 'cuz i've been "oops-ing" for weeks now while i've redone another redo.
nope, i cannot leave well enough alone. n o t. a t. a l l.

as i recall, the old white and provence cans of chalk paint were in my possession for less than an hour before i attacked the table. spastically attacked the unsuspecting table.
i'd say it was more of an experiment than a project and my hypothesis that it would be "fabulous" because i was using my dream paint in the most popular color could NOT be wrong.
my hypothesis was wrong.
see? i spazzed. yes, i know it doesn't look THAT bad but that's because jenn took those photos and she's got that magic camera-thang happenin'.
even jenn hated it in person.
the poor table was sent to the land of misfit furniture and i plumb forgot about it... 'till i felt the need to extend our weirdly warm and wonderful weather a tad longer with another application of annie sloan antibes green. yes, it worked on 'da big 'ole motha of 'da nature when i thumbed my green mirror at her recently--you're quite welcome--so i thought i'd give it another go.
almost 58 here and for the rest of this december week. yes, i'm working my antibes green magic and dancin' a jingle bell jig along the way.
we all know that antibes green can blind a beast so i took it down a notch with dark wax. see the inside of the frame in the top left where there is no wax? yep, that'd be the raw green gunning TO burn holes in your corneas.
figuring that a coffee table will be bumped and battered, i made some pre-emptive swipes with the sandpaper so that the new owner doesn't faint when timmy rams it with his tonka.
so? you think it's too much...um...green? fine, but you're kinda wussy about color, miss "you can't go wrong with white". let's remember that i'm not painting everything white just to make a few bucks. not yet.
i did strip in some stripes 'cuz i felt stripy. like? hate? eh? just spit it out, i can take it.
wipe your lips, please. no, to the left a bit. no, the
other left. okay, you got it.
the whole taping/striping bonanza is like a surprise birthday party that's no surprise. you're totally excited at the idea that it's going to happen so you prep and primp but then you want to run for the hills just as you start to open the door because you don't know what to expect and you need to pull off the "i'm so surprised"-face so you don't let down your guests.
you following me with this? fine, i'll end it there since it's a monday and we're all a bit foggy.
yes, the peeled up splotch was a large contributor to my decision to distress the old bitty.
i like it. not too much but it's growin' on me.
like a fungus.
HEY, Y O U!!! YES, Y O U!!

Amy, great job! Love the new look! I am a fan of green but rarely use it and I like the way you used it...Thanks for sharing!
You crazy woman...not because you painted the table green- I love it- you just be crazy in general.
Either you'll learn to love that green or you won't. I'm still liking my hall tree in burn out your corneas green. Maybe you could get a side job naming AS's new paint colors. ;)
My giveaway is ending tonite- get over and win it, girl.
Very creative! I like your sass! I am visiting from right next door to you on Metamorphosis Monday! Looking forward to our long and happy new friendship!!! Erin
Well done! Love the color and the stripes, not boring but exciting. This wonderful green is really growing on me, especially with black and white. Clever lady!
i couldnt love it anymore! hey, please tell me.. do i have my no-reply fixed? helpPp!
I wasn't a fan of the original, but absolutely LUV the green with stripes! I can't believe that it looks like a different piece with just another coat of paint...all it wanted was a bold color to go with those bold legs :)

I have more mirrors, bring on the good weather! what happens do you think if you paint a whole table that green? do you think we will have a green Christmas!!! Hope so! I will reply back to your e-mail tonight. I gotta take some measurements. And I have a trip planned to PA, just not as far as you this month I think. But I have peeps traveling from your area up.
stripes always make it ok. i love the new look!!!!! seriously!
Hey, Amy. Thanks for the no reply tip. I didn't know it was even set up that way. Hopefully, I fixed it.
Things are going well at Building Character. I almost made my rent on the second month, and on the third, I actually made money, which I was tickled about. The place is becoming quite well-known, and is also becoming a destination shopping place since there's always something different at any given point in time. First Fridays and Ladies' Night Out are jammed! I like being there. LMK if you ever come out! I'll meet you there, and then we can go to the French cafe down the street!

Wow love that shade of green! Bright, bold and lovely! And those stripes....amazing!
holy cow wow. You crack me up. And yeah, I love the green! I'm one of those, you can't go wrong with white peeps far too often. you lost me in the stripe paragraph by the way.... say what?! haha
Love it!! Great color, great stripes, great distressing...love it all! My re-dos never turn out so lovely...actually, I think my problem is that I over-do...and then I make a mess trying to un-do.
does Jeff like it in green? Think I'm liking the spunk of this color.

okay...first blog that I have found that drips sarcasm in a great...fabulous...a bit obnoxious kind of way! Love it! Happily following. Maybe? By the way, the green is a bit much. But the stripes make it work. Great job!
First, allow me to say I salute you on your truthfulness about potential stalking issues.
Good to know.
As for the table itself, I don't know. I think I'm there with you on the edge of "not sure if I love it or not but it's growing on me". I've spent a few minutes staring at it and I still don't know how I feel. I think the color is very bold, which I certainly enjoy, but the stripes throw me a little. They're fun but feel a tad unbalanced for some reason. Like I expect there to be something, even the smallest amount, of those other colors somewhere on the other end of the table too. Maybe a swirly, barely there kind of design just at the edge on the other side or a ring or two around the legs to tie it all in. I think the colors can certainly work beautifully together but I want to see them repeated in some tiny way on another part of the table.
I adore the overall design though and your sense of humor has confirmed that I must stalk you in return. ;)
Super, super cute! I love how it turned out. I am amazed at how you can make your own furniture!
oh, stop being amazed and all cuz i did not make anything but a mess with this piece! someone else did the handiwork and my husband and i plucked this up at abc home in nyc many moons ago.
maybe someday i'll amaze you--and myself--by building...uh... something.
maybe.
Great color and I love the window frame top! Thanks so much for linking up to Share the Love Wednesday; hope you'll be back this week!
Mary
Well! Isn't that.....interesting. And green. I really thought I was gonna hate it when I started reading...cuz, really...uh, I liked the blue. No accountin' for taste, huh? But like you said, it's growing on me and I love the stripes! Oh, and I don't have a blog....I'm just a stalker!
