(Frugal) Fabric Frenzy

fabrics can make or break an upholstered piece of furniture, right? oh, and the budget can be shattered like my crystal wine glasses rolling down the hill on a dolly at the storage unit when my husband turned his head. (fer real. sniff. sniff.)

there will be no blown budget with my soon-NOT-to-be-blazin' orange chairs, though, 'cuz this frugal frau found the stylish stash in that swarthy swedish style house.

ikea saves the day.  again.

check out my choices...(though not final.)

or, perhaps, this one...
via
something dramatic yet soothing about basic black and white. for $6.99.  NOT on sale.  no, it's not a typo. $ 6 . 9 9.  fer real.
via
via
and yellow ain't so shabby, either.

via knack studios
i'd say barb knocked it outta 'da park with that chic chair.  no kiddin'.

via loving living small
and the chica at loving living small are living large with this fabric statement...at $6.99 per yard.  SIX DOLLARS AND NINETY-NICE CENTS FOR ONE Y A R D!  sorry, no more shriekin' freakiness.  i promise.

c'mon...is that life altering or what?  okay, kinda dramatic there.  how about living room altering?

via
bits o' orange bring on 'da bliss.  $7.99.  yuh huh.

via

wow, right?   huh?  no, it's not an upside down peacock balancing on an upside peacock. or three.  i'll admit that it's a "love it" or "hate it" fabric with some peacock-ish traits BUT then you must admit that it's a show-stopper.  or, at least it could be.  c'mon, think outside the peacock box in which you've trapped your creativity.  what would you do with this? (pillow stuffing is not an option.)

if you are one that is climbing up the raw wood tree trend of late, then you're gonna love this off-kilter interpretation--for $7.99.  $7.99.  i know.  crazy.
via
i'm sending some serious kudos to jessica jones at how about orange? for her determination in tackling two vintage steelcase desk chairs and wrapping them in new threads?  check out her tutorial here.

via how about orange

and, when i told her i was babblin' about her chic chairs she was nice enough to send me ANOTHER ikea chair redo.  yes, it's the same fabric i have sitting on my blazin' orange chair!  click here to see the SCARY before shot.  this chick has some serious design-eye going on.

now, what have we learned today, peeps?  in a nutshell, IKEA is a frugal frau's fabric friend.

yes, the fabrics are on the mod side BUT you've dared to go to the wild side before so--for less than $8.99--i think you can try it again.

yes, you can.  Y E S, YOU CAN!  (that was not shrieking, it was enthusiasm).

and send me pics when you're done.

(hey...if you do NOT receive a reply to your comment it's probably b/c you have your blogger account set to "NO REPLY".  get on that, peeps!!!)

You suck. And I mean that in the nicest way possible from someone that has to drive hours to Ikea and ends up having to buy fabric from JoAnn's that costs more and even though you like it doesn't have the POW of Ikea...cuz Modern is Funky and Funky is Bold and Bold is, well...

SIX DOLLARS AND NINETY-NICE CENTS FOR ONE Y A R D! Yeah, I kinda shrieked it out loud when I read it. Fabric is SO expensive! Every time I visit JoAnn's, the only thing I leave with is tears. Everything I like is at least $25 yard. No way! But you made good choices. They turned out great. I'm pretty keen on that blue/yellow combo from knack studios too.

I just love your sense of humor! I am so glad that you stopped by my site: www.potholesandpantyhose.com. I think you might actually GET me-that might be a first. Mostly, I get comments that I'm a little weird. But you-you're just as weird as me! YEAH!!! I love the chairs, by the way. My fav is the 70's one at the very beginning of your post. Have you considered naming them? Just a thought. That one should be Maxine...

I brought new life to a vintage channel back chair with some drop cloth AND a bold black/off white Jo-Ann fabric on sale-- 50% off, regularly $29.99/yd...and I only needed l.5 yards...here's the link to my results:

The peacock like fabric is divine-love it. I just saw a Mid Century Modern set of dining chairs that were awesome and I hope I talked the very young couple into keeping them and the table (I did not see it) as they had no clue what they had and how very cool it was.
